Last of my art books...!

I am officially sold out of The Art of Daren Bader books, and to celebrate, I've taken the last 20 copies and done paintings on the endpapers. Below are a few.

And in case you still want to get a book, there may be some at Stuart Ng Books or at BrandStudioPress.

Update with some art

It's been SO friggin long since I've posted, I'd forgotten my password...
Anyway, I'm posting some art, though I'm sure no one will see it since this blog is covered in cobwebs.....

one hundred drawings

The new book is at the printer! It's called one hundred drawings and consists of, you guessed it, one hundred drawings. I couldn't decide on which cover I wanted to use, so I made it a flip book. Side A is made up of original drawings done on the end papers of the deluxe version of my art book, and Side B is made up of other various sketches and even a couple color pieces.

This puppy should be arriving in the beginning of May, just in time for the Spectrum Live! show (oh... by the way, I'll be at the Spectrum Live! show, so if you're going to be there, stop by and say Hi!!).

Here are some pics:

John Carter of Mars illustration

A friend reminded me that now would be a good time to post my John Carter interior illustration, considering the movie is about to hit (thanks Mike!).

This is from the new anthology from Simon & Schuster called Under The Moons Of Mars edited by John Joseph Adams.

Pencil with digital 'wash'.

ImagineFX Magazine Tutorial

Hmmm... despite the fact that I virtually NEVER post anything on my blog, I see a theme between this post and the last of Orange and Batwings.... And interestingly, Halloween is coming up shortly. I wonder if I'll post anything before then..? Place your bets now.
Anyway, be sure to check out issue #73 of ImagineFX Magazine to see my digital painting tutorial for this Conan piece!

Frazetta Tribute

I forgot to mention that I entered the Frazetta Tribute competition last year. Which means I forgot to mention that I apparently tied for first place with Christopher Shy.

This here's my Death Dealer painting that I guiltily finished up last year. But since there was the Tribute competition I used that as my excuse to totally ape the Master's style as best as I could. =)

Painting for auction in Paris

So, I'm not really sure what the protocol is for posting nudity, but I guess I'll find out. This is oil on canvas, 16x20. It's going to be in an international art auction in Paris! I'll post links and whatnot once I know more.

The Proposition water color sketch

This is a study from a frame of the movie The Proposition. It was done after seeing a Steve Huston sketchbook of some of his boxers. He's amazing, and needless to say, inspirational.

Water color on toned paper. About 4x6ish.

San Diego ComiCon 2010

Once again, the SDCC is upon us. I'll be sharing a booth again this year in the Fantasy Illustrators section (4813, same as last year) with David Palumbo. Unfortunately the third Musketeer, Scott Altmann, will not be joining us this year. Hopefully he'll be back next year.

Anyway, stop by to say "Hi" and check out our books, prints, and originals we'll have for sale!

Kicking off the new posts with some Blood and Guts! (AND a Chesley nomination!)

This is a WarCraft card that was nominated for a Chesley Award this year in the Best Gaming Art catagory. My second nomination!

Congratulations, of course, to all the outstanding nominees this year. I seriously doubt I'll be taking home any awards any time soon..!

Wiping off the cobwebs

Ok, I know no one has been to this blog is years, myself included. Hell, look at the date below this post!! I'm just two weeks shy of a full frickin' year!! How ridiculous is that???

But that's all going to change. Maybe. Hopefully. I'm going to start posting stuff again here, just because dammit, that's what I should be doing. So this is a test. Please ignore. =)

Oros flies to NYC!

I recently found out that Oros (you know, the dragon painting on the cover of my book below) was chosen to be included in the second Spectrum Exhibit to be held at the Museum of American Illustration at the Society of Illustrators in New York City from September 1st thru October 17th. The painting is going to the show for sure, but I also hope to make it out there to attend the opening, as I heard the first exhibit was a blast. But first I gotta pull that puppy out from the stack of paintings he's hiding in and get him framed! (I'm very excited about this. Can you tell...?)

Warhammer Cover Detail

Yeah, it's been a loooong time since I posted last. Sorry 'bout that. I need to make it more of a habit to post. Hey, at least it's not as bad as my website! I haven't updated that thing in THREE YEARS! (I know.. that's not something to be proud of...).

Anyway, here is a detail shot from the Warhammer cover.

Chesley Awards

Hey, my painting Oros was nominated for a Chesley Award in the Gaming Related Illustration category by The Association of Science Fiction & Fantasy Artists! =)

Only problem is, I'm up against some very talented people. And they happen to be good friends, too, so I can't even talk bad about 'em! :(

Anyway, check out the full list of nominees for all of the categories here:

D&D Monster Manual Pt. II

Here's another sketch and final from the Monster Manual. The final below is a little different from how it appears in the book. I prefer this version. Again, digital start to finish.
